About Us
History
Originally the centre started in 1979 as a sub-committee of the Whitford
Recreation Association in Hillarys. It was known as the Whitford
Neighbourhood House Inc. It was incorporated on January 7th, 1985. The name
was officially changed to Whitford Family Centre on May 28th, 1986. The
centre used to include the Whitford Family Centre Playgroup, Whitford
Family Centre Occasional Child Care, Before and After School Care, School
Holiday Care, Vacation Fun Care, Toy Library and Family Centre Four's
Program.
The Centre was then officially opened in August 1988.
All these
programs were managed by WFC Management Committee. Gradually over time
groups have become separately incorporated and now pay us a rental to use
the centre but are separately managed, eg: Whitford Rainbow Toy Library,
Hillarys Out of School Care Inc. Whitford Occasional Child Care moved into
their own building.
Now the
centre is involved with managing the children's programs (3's & 4's),
Playgroup and hiring out our rooms to other user groups.
Funding
The Whitford Family Centre (WFC) is an incorporated association, registered
by the Department of Consumer Employment and Protection (DOCEP).
This means that WFC is a 'not for profit' organisation, committed to
investing all profits generated back into the centre and its facilities.
The centre is funded through grants and income generated through the
management of the centre's user groups and the marketing of the centre. The
centre charges a membership fee upon registration, and we operate a 'Building
Levy' to alleviate the need for constant fundraising, however the centre
reserves the right to operate a limited number of special events.
Management
Structure
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) own the family centre and it is
operated under licence according to a service agreement with the Department
for Communities.
The centre is managed by a volunteer committee elected at the AGM,
consisting of:
. A Chairperson
. Deputy Chairperson
. Secretary
. Treasurer
. General members
